Top 5 Child Friendly Ideas for Summer 2018
Hit the beach!
Forget the massive crowds and painful commutes to the coast – bring a traditional taste of the seaside closer to home by visiting one of London’s many urban beaches.
London’s Royal Docks beach is a great option for quiet family time - http://www.londonsroyaldocks.com/urban-beach/. Alternatively, combine a trip to the shops with some time at the Beach at Brent Cross, or for a more upmarket alternative, head to Neverland at Fulham Beach Club (kids only allowed on weekends).
Head to the West End
All August, it’s ‘Kid’s Week’ – which means children under 16 can get a free ticket to selected West End shows when accompanied by a fully paying adult. The promotion runs throughout the month of August, and there’s loads to choose from.
Further information and tickets can be found at https://officiallondontheatre.com/kids-week/.
Lambeth Country Show
Kick of the summer celebrations and give the whole family a taste of the countryside without leaving the capital at Lambeth Country Show. Held on 21st and 22nd July, it’s one of the UK’s biggest and best family festivals.
Expect traditional country show attractions, like farm animals and country crafts, and plenty for kids to do, including bouncy castles and a funfair. Entry is free – for further info, head to http://lambethcountryshow.co.uk.
Notting Hill Carnival
Europe’s biggest street festival is a vibrant, exciting celebration – and definitely worth a visit. Held over August bank holiday (26th and 27th) – expect a parade, fantastic live music and a carnival atmosphere.
If you’re going with children, we recommend the Sunday ‘family day’. It’s a little quieter and less intense than the Monday parade. Arrive early to beat the crowds.
Sensational Butterflies @ The Natural History Museum
Get hands on and mingle with thousands of colourful, live butterflies at this fantastic exhibition. It’s running until September at the Natural History Museum, and makes for an entertaining and educational day out the whole family can enjoy.
