We are working with an SEN school based in Sutton who are looking to recruit an SEN Teaching Assistant to start ASAP
The SEN Secondary School provides specialist Teaching and therapy for up to 60 children aged 11 to 19 years whose primary need is Speech, Language and Communication. Some children may also have additional learning or sensory integration needs. A large percentage of pupils also have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The abilities are wide ranging, varying from pupils who meet cognitive milestones to pupils with complex needs.
The successful candidate will need experience and a willingness to manage children with ASD (both verbal and lower functioning) and SLCN. You should also be experienced in developing and nurturing the play skills of young children, as well as identifying the next steps.
The School are looking for someone who is resilient and able to manage challenging behaviour.
The School has a warm, safe, friendly, and nurturing environment which helps children to learn, express their ideas, communicate, develop friendships and grow in confidence and self- esteem. Small classes with high adult to child ratio enable children to settle quickly, move confidently around the school and learn the daily routines which form an integral part of school life.
Leavers follow a pathway system from school entry, which enables them to access the most appropriate external courses for their ability – this includes Functional Skills, GCSE’s, ASDAN and BTEC courses. Academic learning is complemented through a joint educational and therapeutic model of support. The school has its own therapy team, consisting of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and a School Counsellor who work towards helping young people overcome their barriers so they are in a place to learn continuously and make the most of the opportunities offered.
If you are interested its important to apply ASAP due to getting the compliance required.
